Poetic devices means figures of speech. When in writing, we depart from the ordinary form of expression or the ordinary course of expressing ideas in order to highlight the effectiveness of our language, then that mode of expression is called a figure of speech.

My mother muttered out moron.
Why did my mother shout moron.
My mother is free as a bee.
Why is my mother spying on me when I am lying and crying.
My mother is as clumsy as a donkey like on a Saturday night.
My mother smells like a flower after her shower.
My mother shouts “aaaaaaaaa!” when she sees a spider.
